With growing popularity of homeopathy worldwide, it has gained an official status. Homeopathic Pharmacy has never been a static subject, it kept growing, and today, we find immense amount of work available on subject. There is a need for standardization as there are many up-coming pharmacopoeias of various countries, including India. Thus, there arise a need for making 'Homeopathic Pharmacy' a more comprehensible subject. While making the book, an effort has been made to maintain the originality of subject while incorporating new technologies. This book is of use to both; undergraduates & to those pursuing post-graduation, in the subject.
Dr. M. K Sahani born on 17th September 1952, imbibed the sprit of homeopathy from childhood. After completing DHMS, he started practicing homeopathy under his father's guidance, Dr Bandhu Sahani, and became popular physician amongst patients. He joined Bihar Homeopathic Medical College & Hospital in 1979, as lecturer He is an elected member of Central Council of Homeopathy and Bihar State Board of Homeopathic Medicines. He is editor of two popular magazines 'Homeo Tarang' & 'The Journal of Homeo Transmission which are appreciated widely He serves homeopathy as teacher & guide both at U. G & PG level.
Foreword
Involvement of the subject of pharmacy in homeopathy, requires a critical study. Dynamism of a material drug needs a definite methodology, which was first reflected in the writings of the founder of homeopathy, Dr. S. Hahnemann. Enhancement of medicinal properties at the dynamic and subtle plane, needs great care and seriousness in the procedure of procurement, identification, preparation, standardization including quality control and storage.
Dr. Sahani, in the present book, has taken great pain in maintaining the originality of the subject as well as making it more logical, for all of those who wish to master the concept of homeopathic pharmacy.
Beginning from the history and traditional application, it has been tuned to incorporate the advanced technology, thus, making it more scientific in presentation. Pharmacy, in homeopathy has evolved from the physician's own dispensaries and has now taken the shape of a pharmaceutical industry. Hence, there is a great need for thoughts and work which can help and guide at the industrial level also.
Homeopathic education too, has moved from the undergraduate level to the postgraduate level, thus requiring more deep insights in the subject. Pharmacy in homeopathy, at the post-graduation stage is different, and the present work has been oriented to the upgraded plan.
The present work of Dr. Sahani encourages the students to explore and take interest in the subject of pharmacy. Though various other works are available on this subject, this work is a valuable addition to the subject because it attempts to bring more information to the profession in a simple language.

Preface
Subject of pharmacy, applied to the dynamic medicines of homeopathy requires a conception between the materialism and spiritualism. Medicines derived from the material and gradually converted to spirit-like entity present, unified conceptions of two trends of thoughts. Moreover, homeopathic pharmacy came out from the scattered writings of Dr. Hahnemann and was supplemented by various other authors of materia medica and philosophy, in homeopathy. Thus, it presented a difficult task for all, to compile and construct a subject for study.
There is an immense growing popularity of homeopathy and its widespread distribution in various parts of the world. Thus, there is a great need of making the subject, "homeopathic pharmacy", more comprehensible with the scope of opening new venues for findings and research in the present scenario. No doubt, various attempts have been a made in this field, yet there is a great scope to present it in a better way. Dr. SR Sudarshan (b-1961) is a graduate in Ayurveda from the Government College of Indian Medicine, Bangalore. While practising as an Ayurvedic Physician he also obtained a diploma in Homoeopathy from the British Institute of Homoeopathy. He is how practising in both systems of medicine. He is also deeply involved in academic Ayurveda, especially in its clinical aspects.
He has collaborated in the preparation of the first three Volumes of the Encyclopedia of Indian Medicine (Published by Popular Prakashan, Bombay for Dr. Parameshvara Charitable Trust, in 1985) and has authored the remaining four volumes of the series (under publication). He has revised and enlarged the well known Indian Materia Medica of KM Nadkarni for the forthcoming and fifth edition (Popular Prakashan, Bombay). He has also written two books, one on Asthma and the other on Diabetes for the Kalpatharu Research Academy, Bangalore.
He is the co-author of the two Volumes on Oshadhi Kosha (Kalpatharu Research Academy, Vol.1 1993, and Vol.11 under Publication) and of Ahara-tattva. He has also written a book on Homeopathic Treatment of Fevers published by B-Jain Publications, New Delhi.

Preface
The Kalpatharu Research Academy, Bangalore, has established itself as regular and well-known learning center of Indology. It has brought out several monumental woks on temple culture, iconography, architecture, sculpture, religion and philosophy, under the project of 'Bharatiya-Samskriti-Samskriti-Sarvasva-Kosha'. The Academy plans to bring out authentic volumes on all aspects of Indian tradition and culture. Several publications are already on the the anvil.
The present publication is the first of the many volumes planned by the Academy on the traditional Indian system of medicine. Rasa Dhatu-Kosha is a brief encyclopaedia on the metals and minerals used in Ayurveda. The Academy is grateful to Dr. SR Sudarshan, an Ayurvedic Physician of Bangalore, for having prepared this excellent volume for the Academy. The Academy hopes to bring out more volumes on Ayurveda in near future.

Performing Arts - Preface
Music And Music-Materials of Ancient India have paved the glorious path of the epitome of art and culture of Indian Music. Music can be divided into two phases, art and culture, and these two phases are fashioned or created by different races or tribes who inhabit the soil of India by dint of their daily habits of works and doings, motivated by their intellects and intuitions. Really men are the fruits of different societies, as they design and fashion many plans, skills and activities to enrich them in the fields of cultures and civilization. Music is one of the materials of education that can develop peoples' ideas of high living and high culture and high standards of aesthetic feeling and enjoying, thus helping them in progressing toward the perfection of their lives as well as their societies, in which they live or have their beings.
It is commonly said that morning shows the day, which means that if the peoples of the societies can reap the best harvest in the first phase of their life ie the childhood, they can surely make the remaining days of life fruitful and beautiful. So the Indian peoples look back to the prosperous days of their cultural past and thus try to march forward for making their remaining days bright and worthful. Now, if we look behind the pages of the history of music, we find that in the Vedic and post-Vedic time I the ages of the Natyasastra of Muni Narada and Bharata, the vedic and the gandharva types of music have left behind them a brightful legacy which inspired and energized them to create many beautiful things, ie and strives. The different prabandha-types of music, druvapada, kheyal, thumri and others have enriched the artistic levels and lives of the peoples not only of India but ignored and despired, rather they should be looked upon or taken as the helpful steps as well as progressing levels of our different arts and culture of India,
This book has been divided into three volumes"
I. The Volume One comprises the discussions on primitive music, prehistoric music and Vedic music of India.
II. The Volume Two comprises the discussions on the music-materials contained in the Brahmana literature, pratisakhya and Siksa literature.
III. The Volume Three comprises the discussions on the music-materials of Narada's Naradisiksa, Muni Bharata's Natyasastra, Dattila's Dattelam. And Matanga's Brihaddesi (5th Century AD).
There have occurred some printing mistakes due to overlook and regligence of the proofreaders and the press also. We shall correct them in the next impression.

The Prelude
"The Earth was born as a separate planet from the solar system about 5000 million years ago. It took birth as a gaseous nebulate, which took a few million years to evolve itself into the present form of layered structure-the atmosphere, the hydrosphere and the lithosphere with further layers of differentiated rock-masses Earth is a dynamic body; it has been revolving around the Sun, the Parent body, and ha been undergoing changes in continuity. The geological history of the Earth involves several interesting episodes; they are represented by the natural events like earthquakes, volcanic activity, changes in the distribution of land and water, mountain building activity, uplift of the ocean basins and sinking of the continental areas. All these are known as diastrophic changes. In addition to the above, water, wind and glaciers have been active as natural agents causing weathering of rocks, erosion, transportation of material and deposition throughout the period, although the resulting changes are slow." (Vide Dr. Kailash Chand Jain: Prehistory and Protohistory [1979], p. 4).
Dr. KC Jain further said: "The history of ancient India from the earliest times to the sixth century BC may be studied under two heads Prehistory and Protohistory. Prehistory deals with Stone Age Cultures of the period when man was savage. The main sources of Prehistory are stone tools, fossils, terraces of the rivers, etc. these sources help in determining the distinct. Geological Ages and Stone Ages, and they give information about he climatic changes, the environments and habits of the people. Protohistory studies those traits which make up civilization. Man gradually became more civilized. There was shifting of civilization from the stage of food-gathering to food-production. No written record identifying the archaeological cultures of the Protohistoric period is available; but foundations of building, pottery objects, grains, terracottas, metal objects, beads and ornaments the Purana are the literary sources for the study of Protohistory, but they are not
